Phonics Games FREEBIES!

Image
I love using phonics games to help kids develop their knowledge of basic letter patterns. That's why I have created lots and lots of phonics board games that do just that! I have several sets of phonics games for CVC words, silent e words, r controlled vowels and vowel digraphs. I also have freebies that I have created for kids to play and consolidate these skills. Three of these are brand new games that I call Word Maker Games. These games require students to join word beginning and endings to make sensible words. The links to some new games and some old favorites are listed below. Phonics Fun With Word Change Board Games

Image
These games would have to be one of my favorite phonics activities. You may already know that I love to challenge students and really make them think. Well the Word Change Board Games certainly do that!                                    These games are played as board games with players taking turns to place a letter on top of another letter in the word on the board and make a new word. I love this activity because it really helps students to recognize common letter patterns.   Word Change Freebies I have 2 Word Change Freebies at -   CVC Word Change Board Game http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Short-Vowel-CVC-Word-Change-Board-Game and   Silent e Word Change Board Game http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Silent-e-Word-Change-Board-Game     More Word Change Games More Silent e Word Change Board Games are also inc...

Phonics Fun With Silent e

Image
I have finally finished these! I have been working on these for some time and I now have 25 colorful, fun phonics board games for teaching silent e. Have a look at some of them here. There are 5 Rhyme with Me Games where the players compete to be the first to rhyme with all of their words.   There are 5 Word Fishing Games. The players move around the board and get to catch a fish when they land on a picture. The one who catches the last fish is the winner.  There are also 4 Word Change games. I love games that make kids think and this one will keep them on their toes as they try to be first to use all of their letter cards to make new words. There are 11 Word Boards that can be used as board games or used for 8 other activities. Along with the the 11 word boards, there are also 9 activity cards with suggested uses for them.   I think my favorites are the Word Change games but the kids always have heaps of fun with the Word Boards too!   This set is now available...

I Love Playing Around With Words!

Image
From my first year of teaching - which was some years ago - I always loved teaching phonics and playing around with words. Children get so much from rhyming, letter swapping, reading words lists and building word lists. These simple posters are filled with big opportunities!        We use them for reading words with these patterns but we also have lots of fun with them. Miming Clues Students can mime a clue for a word and the others try to guess what the word is. Someone might mime eating off a plate for the word plate. What's My Word? I like to give students a clue for a word and the students have to guess what my word is. I might say, 'We do this at night.' for the word sleep. Letter Swap We also play letter swap where I select a word and ask students to change a letter to make a new word. I might say, 'Change the i in hit to make a new word,' and students could say hot, hut or hat. There are lots of fun things that you can do with a list of words! The po...
